I’ve been animating this commission for a long time.
The character turned out to be very detailed.
There was another reason.
My cat Enya died in the summer of August 5th at 19 years of age.
As I write this, I realize that it is still very difficult for me.

I once animated short film for my college. There was character based on my cat in it. Would you like to see it? I made it in 2014. Quite raw and unfinished work. I now have a dream - to redo this short with my current skills.

I don’t plan to open commissions anytime soon. I’m thinking of finishing the gift and animating one commission that was promised a long time ago.
After this I hope to start remake of a short film. Maybe couple of commissions between the scenes.

How does that keep happening to me?
like, I sometimes not just mispell a word but just straight up write some completly different word instead, without noticing.
Like I was diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD as a kid. but that still seems so weird. like, I read the text I just wrote and I feel like being trolled. and I don’t have any autocorrect either.

just imagine how different the show would be if humans were a thing in dinotrux.
like, what would their relationship be with the trux? would they fight them? probably. maybe some would get on board with Ty. Some might try to capture them and use them for combat or transport orm since they are construction vehicles, to build or destroy.
They also probably wouldn’t understand each others language.

I’ve seen some fans wishing they added humans to the show.
Personally, I like that it focuses more on the trux. idk, I just care more for the trux tbh.

In my personal opinion, adding a human would be a terrible idea, it would feel very out of place and look very strange. There are no reasons to do it either, plus I think it would be very forced.

There would also be no way for humans to exist, as far as I remember, does not exist fruits, vegetables or any other plant that a human can digest, much less does meat exist. There is no way a human could survive without some type of edible food.

And perhaps where the Dinotrux live is not even the planet Earth as such.

I think the magic of the show is that it focuses on Dinotrux, after all it’s called “Dinotrux” for a reason.

I agree somewhat. I think it would deffinetly change the whole vibe of the show if they had humans and animals that aren’t mechanical. Especially since tools and screw based bugs exist. it would seem weird to then also have organic animals as well.

But maybe it could work if they changed… everything.
like they changed the show from the ground up to make it work.
idk, I may not like it, but I’m trying to look at it objectiv and I do think that you could make a show like that, it just wouldn’t be at all like the old dinotrux.

The more I think about the whole bringing back Dinotrux the more worried I get.

like, what if they decite to completely change the show? like, the designs of the characters, the art style or the tone.
they could do that.
especially after 6 years have passed and many fans have moved on since then anyway. Plus the show was never that popular to begin with. I mean, it didn’t do poorly either. It just did ok. (otherwise they would have probably canceled it.)

they might try to get a new audience. maybe aim it at a even younger children and try to copy more popular shows.
I mean the original book the show was based on was aimed at pre-schoolers and I have heard they originally wanted it to be aimed at pre-schoolers but later changed it (tho I couldn’t find anything that supports that claim, some one just told me that).

The books were simple picture books with some short flavour text in them that just described each dinotrux species and what they were like. There was no real story.

and yes, the dinotrux looked very different.

there were also humans too.

image

My guess is that they got rid of humans because animating humans in 3D was just too costly, so they focused more on the trux themself. Which personally I’m totally fine with.

Speaking of the books.

image

In one of them we see them in our present day stuck in museums and they break free because they feel mistreated by the humans and seak revenge.

image

Honestly, if they did add humans I wish they used the premise of this book for the show. that would be awesome. xD
They probably would change it a bit to have D-Structs try to destroy the city and Ty and his friends would try to stop him and save the humans.

But yea, if they say it’s a season 6 and not another dinotrux spin-off series I don’t think that’s what they gonna do. tho, its not in development yet so a lot could still change.

Or maybe they could use that Revenge of the Dinortux plot for a movie one day. if that new season does well enough they might do more. But that’s just wishful thinking I believe. They never gonna make a movie. It would have to do REALLY well to deserve a movie.

I’m also worried that they might change something about the show, because with the formula they already had it worked quite well and there really isn’t much reason for them to change it.

I don’t think it was originally intended to be totally pre-school, mainly because of the first sketches that there were of the series, the character designs did not have a childish design at all, they didn’t look very nice either for the young ages, they were actually scarier, furthermore, the Dinotrux we have is enough for pre-school.

As far as is known, they never had the idea of putting humans in the show, there is no information or sketch that confirms the idea of adding humans.

there were humans in the books. I never said they ever tried to put humans in the show at any point. I meant they “removed” as in the idea of having humans in the show despite it being in the books.

Something I try to keep in mind when making art that looks vintage is keeping a limited color pallette. Digital art gives you a very wide, Crisp scope of colors, whereas traditional art– especially older traditional art– had a very limited and sometimes dulled use of color.

This is a modern riso ink swatch, but still you find a similar and limited selection of colors to mix with. (Mixing digitally as to emulate the layering of ink riso would be coloring on Multiply, and layering on top of eachother 👉)

image

If you find some old prints, take a closer look and see if you can tell what colors they used and which ones they layered… a lot of the time you’ll find yellow as a base!

image

Misprints can really reveal what colors were used and where, I love misprints…

Something else I keep in the back of my mind is: how the human eye perceives color on paper vs. a screen. Ink and paint soaks into paper, it bleeds, stains, fades over time, smears, ect… the history of a piece can show in physical wear. What kind of history do you want to emulate? Misprinted? Stained? Kept as clean as possible, but unable to escape the bluing damages of the sun? It’s one of my favorite things about making vintage art. Making it imperfect!

image

You can see the bleed, the wobble of the lines on the rug, the fading, the dirt… beautiful!!

Thinking in terms of traditional-method art while drawing digital can help open avenues to achieving that genuine, vintage look!

image

image

ALSO!!

YELLOWING!! Digital art is very blue-light based. Cold, clean, flat. But traditional art has warmth to it. Why?

Over time, paper gets yellowed with dust, oil, dirt, and nicotine from cigarettes! So colors got warmer. This makes art look pretty aged, on top of the slight toned papers and hand made/factory made inks they printed with.
